Private Home
Howwood
This small family dwelling is set within the Renfrewshire Countryside and surrounded with traditional farming houses and buildings.
The project development was a chance for us to explore using modern materials to blend the house with its local environment.
The overall internal layout is restricted by the small footprint set by the local authority, which lead us to a simple but efficient plan incorporating all the client's needs. However the challenge in the project was how the dwelling would look aesthetically from the outside.
The palate of materials consists of zinc cladding panels for the roof which complements the timber clad external walls, hints of lead work and traditional timber windows / doors create a contemporary yet subtle aesthetic which would merge into the surrounding landscape.
The beauty of the materials is that the zinc panels and timber cladding will change in appearance over the duration of the building's life, as a result of natural weathering, allowing it to grow and ripen identically to the countryside around it.
