Interior Alteration

Weavers Cottage, Kilbarchan

This traditional weavers cottage suffered major fire damage meaning that its entire interior and roof had to be removed, leaving a simple shell of 4 external stone walls.

With a new internal timber stud leaf providing the new structure and support for the new roof, this existing cottage was transformed into a contemporary family home.

The main stair and halls on all levels are open from the ground floor to the roof ridge, through the use of half height partitions which allow views from the attic study down into the lounge. The open plan feel is continued on the ground floor with the dining, lounge and kitchen spaces all connected.

The exposed timber beams on the ground floor blend into the internal material / colour palette of white painted walls, timber floors and beams with colour brought in using soft furnishings and artwork.

The white walls throughout the house give the contemporary airy feel whilst the warmth of the flooring give it a homely feel at the same time.

The beauty of this modern interior is that it contrasts with the traditional external appearance of the cottage. A perfect modern family home within the conservation village of Kilbarchan.
