Garden Room Extension
Paisley
This existing end terraced, listed building has a unique older external character which has been maintained and respected by the clients, however internally they have utilised the space to create a modern contemporary family home.
Our brief for this project was to create a Garden Room area so that the client could make the most of their garden and have an area to entertain guests, maximise light into the internal spaces, and allow the interior and external spaces to be connected in some way. All of this whilst maintaining / respecting the existing character of the building.
Our first decision for the external aesthetic of the extension was to be sympathetic to the existing dwelling through materiality. After negotiation with the local Planning department, we used a carefully selected palette of external materials (stone / natural slate / lead / steel) some of which are prominent on the existing building to create a modern extension, with modern features / details, whilst allowing the old and new to become one.
Internally the use of the folding screen, fixed glazed panels and rooflights give a bright space with a strong connection to the garden and provides a very enjoyable entertaining space.
